A recent visit to Chicago provided a chance to admire the bounty of the civic commitment to architecture and public (and architecture as public art) that permeates the city. The recent opening of the Aqua Tower further adds another layer of diversity to what is already an impressive collection.
Compare the sense of scale and sensitivity to style and surroundings with the other most recent tower opening on record, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Hard to imagine a more stark contrast than between Aqua and the absurd homage to “upright hubris” that is the Burj.
